Sept13-16

Havasupai is on an Indian reservation in Arizona, down in the Grand canyon. Two years ago we made plans to head to Supai. We made reservations for 2008 however they were cancelled due to a flood. So we tried again and here we are in 2009.
We arrived Sunday night and slept in our car. We woke up at six in the morning to start. Pack it in, pack it out. It is eight miles into the town to check in then two miles from there to camp. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Once we made it we picked a spot by the river and pitched our tent as well as put up our hammock.

We then headed to Mooney Falls. This picture is taken from the top before the hike down.

The hike to Mooney falls is quite the hike. The next picture posted is where we climed down. If you enlarge it and look close you can see the chains. We had to crawl through tunnels that descended down as well as hold on to chains. Pictured here is the first tunnel.

Here is Cache headed down

In Front of Mooney

After seeing Mooney we decided to hike down to beaver falls. It was alot further then we thought. All together we hiked about 17 miles the first day. Here are pictures of what we saw.

We had to climb up these and down these ropes to keep on the trail

This is our set up for our meals, since your not allowed to have a fire. We had mountain house as well as MREs. We made oatmeal for breakfast and Macaroni one day for lunch.

I left my pack on the table that night. I accidently left one of the zippers open. A critter crawled up the table and stole all six of our nature bars and two ziplocs full with trail mix. Here is the evidence we have... plus the critter left dirt all in my pack. MAN, we have been ROBBED!!!

Now being the second day we went to Havasu Falls

We then hiked to two miles back to town to check out the stores and buy some snaks since ours were taken. Here is a pic of a couple houses. There are lots. We ate dinner at their cafe. Also we saw two churches there. Pictured is one of them, click on it and take a look.

Cache and I stand together in front of a new fall that was ceated after the flood. It doesn't have a name yet. The other picture is Navajo falls. We wanted to go under it and get a picture together but everytime we went buy it no one was there. Pictured below is Cache and I inside a cave. We found buy free climbing I belive they were mining in there and thats how it was created. sure glad we brought our headlamps in our small packs.

Wed morning we woke up bright and early and started our trek out. Going up the switch backs was the hardest part. If you click on the picture you can see the mules on there way down from it.
